Now that you know the benefits that braces can provide, you may be looking to start orthodontic treatment soon. Many people are under the impression that you have to stick to a soft food diet while wearing braces. While this isn’t necessarily true, there are some limitations to the food you can eat. If you choose to eat hard, sticky or chewy food, it may result in broken wires and brackets. Not only can this be painful, but it will end up taking longer to straighten your teeth. So to keep your braces in tip-top condition, here are some of the foods that you should avoid:
- Gum
- Chewy, hard or sticky candy
- Popcorn
- Nuts
- Ice (for chewing)
Also, it’s best to avoid biting into hard food with your front teeth, including cookies, crackers or chips. For more information, schedule a consult with your orthodontist. And if you still need to choose a provider, search here to find an orthodontist near you.
